Professor Anca Dan (Centre de la Recherche Scientifique, Paris) presented the lecture „Mmeory and oblivion of people and places at the mouths of Danube: Chilia and Vicina, in which she emphasized the interdisciplinary way of reconstruction of some archaeological sites, through the critical confrontation of the new geomorphological scenarios, made by a team of geographers and biologists from the University of Bucharest, with the information from ancient written sources (maps, historical texts, inscriptions), connected with the archaeological discoveries. The speaker illustrated the results of the Romanian geoarchaeological project, the evolution of the Chilia arm and the reconstruction of the ancient and Byzantine sites Vicina and Chilia, forwarding the hypothesis that Vicina corresponds to the ancient Noviodunum and that the Byzantine fortification from Licostoma that appears in the historical sources is the one from Chilia Nouă.
