The current issue comprises 7 scientific articles from academic fields such as: epigraphy, sigillography and hardstone carving, epistolography, museum studies, geology, cultural diplomacy, authored by renowned international professors and researchers. Elena Ene Drăghici-Vasilescu (University of Oxford) proposes an innovative study of the inscriptions found in the Byzantine sites from the old territory of Byzantine Cappadocia. Ergun Lafli (University Dokuz Eylul) și Martin Henig (Archaeological Institute, University of Oxford) present 11 Roman gemstones from the collections of the museums in Southeastern Turkey. Iskandar Bcheiry (American Theological Library Association, Chicago) describes different aspects of the relations between Mamluks and Ethiopians in the 15th century, starting from his English translation of a unpublished letter of the Coptic Patriarch John XIII to the Ethiopian king Na’od. The study of Jackie Feldman (University “Ben Gurion” of Negev) analyses the manner in which the Holocaust is presented to the public in the Yad Vashem Museum in Jeruaselm and the Jewish Museum in Berlin, respectively, based on their institutional policies and educational practices. Barney Paul Popkin (University of Arizona, Tucson) presents the geologic influences on the natural resources of the Levant.
The last two articles are devoted to Romanian cultural diplomacy: Elena Luiza Popa (The Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilization) analyses the programme and activity of the Centre for High International Studies, established in 1937, under the Romanian Social Institute, with the aid of the Rockefeller Foundation, while Cristina-Adriana Reiter-Popescu (Deutsches Goethe-Kolleg) discusses the diplomatic efforts of Bertha von Suttner, an Austrian fighter for peace, as they emerge from the unpublished archival documents. This volume concludes with 2 book reviews, authored by Cătălin-Ștefan Popa and Liviu-Mihail Iancu (The Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilization).
