Lecturer Manuela Dobre (Faculty of History, University of Bucharest) investigated some aspects of the logistics of the Byzantine army, which occupied a privileged place in society, especially in the turbulent sixth century, when the reconquest of Italy took place. Investigating primary sources such as Justinian's Code, Procopius of Caesarea´s works or the Strategikon handbook of Emperor Mauricius, the speaker showed certain aspects and mentalities of the era, in her paper Some Considerations about the Byzantine Army in the 6th Century.
Professor Ernesto Sergio Mainoldi (University of Salerno) tackled the issue of "The Holy War" in Byzantium in his communication The Theological Background of the Byzantine Attitude of War, showing that there was no concern to create a political theology of peace, but the Byzantine theologians and ascetics conceived instead a theory of the inner peace.
