The permanent exhibition offers visitors a documentary and symbolic perspective an the ways in which cultural diplomacy and the culture of peace may become instruments of foreign policy and international cooperation in support of classical diplomacy.
The collection brings together a series of awards, orders, medals and honorary diplomas which Professor and later President Emil Constantinescu received, over the years, from academic institutions, international organizations and cultural forums. A recognition of his continuous engagement in the promotion of intercultural dialogue, regional reconciliation, the transition to democracy of post-totalitarian states and the creation of a space for peace through cultural and educational means, the items displayed are an expression of the international prestige that President Constantinescu achieved as a promoter of humanist values and of an active cultural diplomacy well able to contribute to establishing durable bridges between societies shaped by different historical experiences yet brought together by their shared aspiration towards understanding, cooperation and peace.
At the same time, the exhibition also reflects a strategic conception of culture as a factor for cohesion and sustainable development. Through his national and international activity, President Emil Constantinescu has and continues to contribute to the articulation of a model of cultural diplomacy in which the value of dialogue, of historical memory and of cultural identity are placed in service of a culture of peace as the fundamental ideal of a contemporary world wracked by conflicts that perturb the solace and development of human societies.
The initiative of this exhibition is more than a mere document of memory, providing a framework for reflection on the ways in which the culture of peace may become an ethical foundation for conviviality for future generations. It is aimed at researchers, students and diplomats, but also to members of the general public interested in geopolitical transformations at the regional and global level, but also in the place that Romania can occupy in a civilizational spectrum predicated on respect, trust, cooperation and understanding the Other.
