High-level meeting with H. E. Kathleen Ann Kavalec, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United States of America to Romania (2023-2025)

Today, the headquarters of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilization hosted H. E. Kathleen Ann Kavalec, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United States of America to Romania between 2023 and 2025, who was invited to attend a meeting with the Institute’s President, Professor Emil Constantinescu, and its Director-general, Dr Cătălin-Ștefan Popa, with a view to establishing possible avenues of future collaboration.

H.E. Kathleen Kavalec's considerable diplomatic experience, highlighted by her position as Minister Counselor in the U.S. Senior Foreign Service has, throughout her career, been reflected by a series of appointments to important positions within the US diplomatic corps, including as head of the US mission at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and as deputy head of mission for the US mission to UNESCO in Paris.

Discussions between Her Excellency and the leadership of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilization primarily focused on highlighting the historical importance of the Strategic Partnership established between Romania and the United States on July 11th, 1997, as well as the substantial contribution that Emil Constantinescu, as President of Romania, brought to the consolidation and long-term development of bilateral relations between the two countries. At the same time, the meeting provided an opportune occasion to outline future guidelines for close cooperation, particularly with regard to projects focusing on cultural diplomacy and on an authentic rewriting of recent history.
