Keynote lecture by Professor Michael J. Broyde on the Codification of Jewish Law in the Levant, Middle East and Eastern Europe

On Tuesday, June 6th 2023, Professor Michael J. Broyde of Emory University will give a keynote lecture on "The Codification of Jewish Law:  What was in the Law, Culture and Civilization that led to the Codification of Jewish Law from 1400 to 1600 in the Levant, Middle East and Eastern Europe?" as part of an ongoing programme launched by the the Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilization focusing on "The Culture of Law in the History of the Levant and the Middle East".

Michael J. Broyde is Professor of Law at Emory University School of Law, the director of the SJD Program, and Berman Projects Director at the Center for the Study of Law and Religion. His primary areas of interest are law and religion, Jewish law and ethics, family law, and comparative religious law.

He has published more than 250 articles and many books on Jewish and International Law, as well as on various aspects of law and religion, with Oxford Press (2017, 2022), Wifpf & Stock (2019) and Academic Studies Press (2021)Broyde was a visiting professor of Law at Stanford University School of Law, and a Senior Fulbright Scholar at Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
