The 7th edition of the International Forum in Baku

Baku, Azerbaidjan, March 14th-16th, 2019

The President of the Scientific Council of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilization, Professor Emil Constantinescu, took part in the 7th edition of the International Baku Forum in Azerbaijan, organized between the 14th and 16th of March 2019 by the “Nizami Ganjavi” Cultural Centre in partnership with the World Academy of Art and Science, on the theme of A New World Order.

The event saw interventions on the part of current and former heads of state, ministers of foreign affairs and renowned diplomats, among them Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan; Hikmet Çetin, former Turkish Minister for Foreign Affairs;  Mr. Ivo Josipović and Mr. Stjepan Mesić, former presidents of Croatia; Mrs. Rosalia Arteaga Serrano, former president of Ecuador and a member of the Editorial Board of the Encyclopedia Britannica; Mr. Zlatko Lagumdžija, former president of Bosnia and Herzegovina; Mr. Jonathan Granoff, Chairman of the Institute for Global Security; and Mr. Momir Đurović, the former president of the Academy of Arts and Sciences in Montenegro.

The proceedings explored a number of strategies meant to effectively mobilise and direct the energies and available global social resources in order to consolidate the efficacy and proper functioning of existing government institutions, and to kickstart a broad societal movement that would transform the challenges facing mankind into catalysts for rapid social evolution worldwide.

On March 15th, during a panel titled The contemporary role of culture and science in decision-making, moderated by Nobel Prize laureate Professor Harold Varmus, Mr. Emil Constantinescu gave a speech titled Higher education and the New Society, in which he analysed the differences between market economies and the economy of values, and underlined the responsibilities of university teaching staff in a contemporary world in constant flux.
