On Friday, December 4th 2020. President Emil Constantinescu took part in the Annual Meeting of the Board of Trustees of the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS). In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the reunion was organized electronically in an online format. The topics of discussion included procedural and organizational considerations related to the upcoming events organized by the World Academy of Art and Science, such as the Nobel Peace Laureates Youth Conference (December 11th–12th 2020), the Global Leadership in the 21st Century International conference (December 15th–16th 2020, organized in collaboration with the United Nations Office in Geneva and in partnership with the Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilization) and the World Conference on Basic Sciences and Sustainable Development, scheduled for September 2022.
In addition, the Board also discussed and voted upon a series of other issues such as the awarding of the titles of Fellow and Associate Fellow to new members of the WAAS, proposals to amend the roster of the World Academy’s Advisory Committee and to empower and activate its Development Committee, nominations for the reelection of several members of the Board of Trustees and the organization of the upcoming Gemeral Assembly of the World Academy of Art and Science, scheduled for February 2021.
On this occasion, President Constantinescu presented two significant achievements of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilization. The first is the launch of the inaugural issue of the International Journal of Levant Studies, its Scientific Council featuring several notable members of the World Academy alongside renowned specialists from the Universities of Oxford, Gottingen, Florida, California, Israel and Lebanon. The second notable development is the launch of a volume on Interculturality and Social Dynamism in Contemporary Dobrogea, coordinated by Dr Florica Mihuț, under the auspices of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilization.
Dr Oana Brânda also attended the Annual Meeting of the Board of Trustees on behalf of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilization, where she presented the panel the Institute is preparing for the Global Leadership in the 21st Century International Conference: The Lessons of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The panel is part of the Institute’s broader project on The World Post-COVID-19: A Humanist Vision for Sustainable Development.
