The Annual Meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Library of Alexandria (Bibliotheca Alexandrina)

Cairo/Alexandria, Egypt, April 6th-8th, 2019

The President of the Scientific Council of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilization, Emil Constantinescu, as a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Library of Alexandria (Bibliotheca Alexandrina), took part in a reunion of this decisional forum held between the 6th and 8th of April in Cairo and Alexandria, in Egypt.

The first day of the event saw the participants welcomed by the Director of the Library’s Board of Trustees and current President of the Republic of Egypt, Mr. Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, who also inaugurated the session of April 6th at Al-Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo. The proceedings were also attended by the Egyptian Minister for Education, dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, and the Egyptian Minister for Culture, Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem.

The General Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, highlighted his institution’s achievements over the past year, and underlined its essential role in the promotion of culture and knowledge at a national, regional and global level. The subsequent discussions focused on the expansion of the national and international role played by the BA in the context of the rapid technologization of a society on the brink of a fourth technological revolution.

The proceedings of April 7th and 8th were held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina headquarters in Alexandria, and were presided over by the Chairman of its Executive Board, Professor Farouk El Okdah. The participants discussed the short and long-term aims and goals of the BA and voted on administrative, organizational and logistics issues, while also pencilling in the date for the next Board of Trustees reunion to be held sometime in 2020.
