On Panait Istrati at the “Synergies in Communication” International Conference

November 22nd-23rd, 2018

The “Synergies in Communication” International Conference was an event organized in partnership with the National Bank of Romania, under the auspices of the International Economic and Business University, and with the support of the TEPSA Group, the “Iuliu Haţieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacology in Cluj-Napoca, QUEST Romania and the “Lingua Economica” Association. It is part of a larger series of international conferences on “Synergies in Communication and the Future of Europe”.

Notably, one of the panels of the conference was dedicated entirely to Romanian writer Panait Istrati. Speaking about his lengthy travels across the Levant, the General Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilization, Andreea Grecu-Ciupală, posited that we can find echoes of Istrati’s sojourns in each event that marks our own timelines. “A free sandwich-man in Cairo, or a beleaguered functionary pacing the halls of a Ministry?” Referring to the same Levantine space, Maria Chatziapostolou, of the Orthodox Academy of Crete, held an address on “When Nikos Kazantzakis met Panait Istrati.”
