Exploratory Workshop on Romania’s involvement in supporting European scientific research projects, at the IASLCC Headquarters

During an exploratory workshop organized by the Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilization on the topic of “Romania’s involvement in supporting European scientific research projects”, the delegation of the “Trieste EuroScience Open Forum”, comprised of Professor Stefano Fantoni, Dr. Elisabetta Gregoric and Professor Rodica Toader presented the“Trieste 2020 – European Capital of Science” project. The project is supported by the IASLCC, and the Exploratory Workshop aimed to offer a space for debate and the dissemination of information regarding current initiatives in scientific research, development and innovation at a national and European level.

In his opening address, Professor Emil Constantinescu, the President of the Institute’s Scientific Council, underlined how “Romania has been extremely active in the field of scientific research, both at the level of the European community, and more broadly in international academic circles, demonstrating an acute interest for development and innovation. The purpose of this workshop is to create a framework for dialogue and cooperation through which researchers and scientists can embark on projects destined to benefit mankind at a global level.”

The workshop was attended by representatives of the University of Bucharest, the National Institute for Research and Development of Marine Geology and Geo-Ecology (GeoEcoMar), the National Institute for Research and Development of Mechatronics and Measurement Techniques, the Bucharest Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the National Institute for Research and Development in Computer Science, the National Institute for Research and Development of Biological Sciences and of the Romanian Association for Smart Cities and Mobility.

The discussions focused on representative examples of good practice in the field, the possibility of inter-institutional cooperation, the accession of European funds in elaborating research, development and innovation projects meant to significantly improve the state of the art at a national level, as well as a series of initiatives forwarded by the Trieste delegation in various fields of the hard sciences.
